How I Discovered the Power of Dhyana Mudra in My Yoga Practice
Welcome Back, Beautiful Soul š
Lately, Iāve been chatting a lot about health and wellnessāand honestly, Iāve loved every second of it. Learning and sharing that knowledge lights me up. But today, I want to bring the focus back to my heart: yoga.
As you probably know, my full-time role right now is in fitness instruction, and yoga takes up the biggest chunk of my schedule. Itās not just what I doāitās a huge part of my life.
š§āāļø Flowing with My Students
During class, I often move through the sequence with the amazing guests who share space with me. It helps visual learners follow along and even allows me to find my own little flow state. But letās be realāleading an entire class physically can be exhausting! And no one wants a teacher who's out of breath halfway through Sun Salutations.
More importantly, when Iām busy adjusting my own posture or worrying about what I look like, it pulls me out of my purpose. My goal is to share the practiceāto guide, inspire, and hold spaceānot to focus on myself.
⨠Finding Stillness in Teaching
To conserve my energy and really channel meaningful dharma talks, I often settle into a seated position with my hands resting gently in my lap. I never used to think much about what my hands were doing⦠until recently.
I noticed I naturally stack my hands, palms facing upward, thumbs lightly touchingāespecially during meditations, Savasana, or when Iām sharing heartfelt words with my class.
If youāve been practicing yoga for a while and understand some of its deeper roots, you might know what this is.
But if youāre still wondering what the heck Iām talking aboutālet me share something magical with you: I was unknowingly placing my hands in Dhyana Mudra.
š« The Sacred Meaning of Mudras
Mudras are intentional hand gestures used in yoga and meditation to channel energy. Theyāre often left out in Western yoga classes, which is such a missed opportunity. Thankfully, my education through Yoga Class Curator helped me dive deeper into these sacred symbols.
When I realized that my body naturally fell into Dhyana Mudraāthe gesture of meditation, wisdom, and inner peaceāit lit something up inside me. It was like my intuition had been guiding me all along.
