Hello, fellow coffee drinkers and members of the little treat community! 🌸

Coffee is a delightful part of many morning routines, and with a few simple tweaks, you can make it even healthier and more enjoyable. Today, I'm sharing how I elevate my coffee and some easy ways you can enhance your morning drink.

Hot Coffee for Better Digestion 🔥

I prefer hot coffee over cold beverages, and here's why: hot drinks are better for digestion. According to traditional Chinese medicine, warm liquids help to soothe and relax the digestive tract, promoting smoother digestion. Drinking hot coffee can stimulate your digestive enzymes, making the process more efficient.

And in no way am I shaming iced coffee! I love a delish iced drink, especially on a hot day. I just opt for hot coffee when I can. And if you're still wondering how I manage to drink hot coffee in Florida during the summer...girl my job has the AC on blast. I'm shivering just thinking about it.

The Deliciousness of Bulletproof Coffee 🧈

Bulletproof coffee is a creamy and delicious way to start your day. The typical recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and sweetener. However, I don't use this as a meal replacement, so I reduce the ratio to 1 teaspoon each. This way, I still get the rich flavor and benefits without overloading on fats.

Adding healthy fats like butter and coconut oil encourages your body to produce ketones, which are molecules produced by the liver from fatty acids. Ketones are used by your body for energy when glucose is in short supply, providing a steady source of fuel that can improve mental clarity and endurance. This is actually the basis of the keto diet!

Spice It Up with Turmeric and Cinnamon 🌿

I love adding turmeric and cinnamon to my coffee. Here’s why these spices are fantastic additions:

- Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric contains curcumin, which can help reduce inflammation and support overall health.

- Cinnamon: This spice not only adds a delightful flavor but also helps regulate blood sugar levels, making your coffee both tasty and beneficial for your health.

Tips for a Healthier Coffee Experience ☕

Let’s dive into some tips to make your coffee even better:

- Don't Consume Coffee on an Empty Stomach: Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can increase stomach acid, potentially leading to digestive discomfort. It's best to have a light snack or breakfast before your coffee.

- Caffeine Timing: Consuming caffeine 90 minutes after waking up supports your circadian rhythm, aligning with your body’s natural cortisol production and ensuring you get the most out of your caffeine boost.

- Understanding Caffeine: Caffeine doesn't make you more awake; it blocks adenosine receptors in your brain, which tell you you're tired. This temporary blocking helps you feel more alert.

- Moderate Sugar and Syrups: Use sugar and syrups in moderation to avoid unnecessary calories and sugar spikes. Natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup are great alternatives.

- Collagen Add-On: Adding collagen to your coffee can make it more beneficial without affecting the taste. Collagen supports healthy skin, hair, nails, and joints.

- Opt for Nut Milks: Nut milks can minimize glucose spikes compared to oat milk, making your coffee healthier. They tend to have a lower glycemic index than regular dairy milk or oat milk. (Oats are a grain!)  This means they cause a slower, more gradual rise in blood sugar levels rather than a sharp spike. This is beneficial for maintaining stable energy levels and avoiding the sugar crash that can come from high glucose spikes. Additionally, nut milks are often lower in carbohydrates and sugars, further helping to manage blood sugar levels.

Play Around with Flavors! 🎨

Don’t be afraid to experiment with your coffee. Here are some fun ideas:

- Peanut Butter Espresso Shot: Add a dollop of peanut butter and use honey as your sweetener for a unique and delicious twist.

- Different Milks: Try almond, cashew, or coconut milk to find your favorite.

- Varied Sweeteners: Explore different sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar to discover new flavors.

Conclusion 🌟

By making these simple adjustments, you can transform your morning coffee into a healthier and more enjoyable ritual. Play around with flavors, add some nutritious ingredients, and most importantly, enjoy every sip!

Staying caffeinated,

Camryn
